April 28, 1997 Grizzly Adams Didn't Have a Three-Layered Garment SystemBy Mac McKean BOZEMAN, Montana -- You know, it's going to be hard not to be smug while I file these daily reports. I have an expensive laptop computer and I don't have to do anything for two weeks except hang out in the park and use it to write whatever I want. For this, I am being paid. So, despite my earlier fears about grizzlies and the assorted terrors of nature, I find myself... excited. I feel like Lewis and Clark must have felt when they crossed the continent from East to West, faced uncharted mountains and even wild animals. I feel like Grizzly Adams (or was he just a t.v. character?). But when the modern adventurer hears the words, "Go west, young man" -- in this case, spoken by his editor -- I had to wonder: What were the horrors, the obstacles, the disgusting slimy monsters I would face? |
